The dangers come from misplaced trust and cheap scale:

  • Bias laundering: If scripts are generated or heavily summarized by AI, the model’s biases can enter through framing and omissions

If an outlet uses AI presenters, the ethical bar should be higher, not lower:

  • Human editorial approval: AI should not publish without a named editor approving the script.
  • Source links and transparency: Provide sources in the article/video description.
  • Watermarking and provenance: Adopt content authenticity signals where possible.
  • Avoid “breaking news improvisation”: Don’t let AI generate ad-lib commentary. Keep it to verified scripts.
  • Respect labor and likeness rights: Never clone a voice or face without explicit permission and compensation.

What audiences should look for

Viewers can protect themselves by checking:

  • Does the segment link back to a real newsroom page?
  • Are sources cited or is it pure narration?
  • Is the outlet consistent across platforms (website, verified social accounts)?
  • Is there disclosure that the presenter is synthetic?

AI anchors can be a helpful delivery method for verified facts, but they should never become a shield that hides who is responsible for the reporting. The future of synthetic presenters depends less on rendering quality and more on editorial integrity, transparency, and provenance.
